1.PURPOSE:
To lead students in growing their devotion to God (discipleship), God's people (fellowship), and the world (outreach, evangelism, service).
2.CRASH: FCC Student Ministry's Mission Statement and Values:
Our Youth Ministry exists to “CONNECT with Christ, REACH the lost, APPLY God's Word, SERVE others, and HONOR Him with our lives.” (C.R.A.S.H.)
In a Youth Pastor/Director, we strongly value and expect:
a.Servant Leadership: Able to lovingly lead others by example, serving and ministering to others—like Jesus.
b.Effective Communication Skills: Comfortable in front of others (both in one-on-one and group situations) and is gifted at teaching/preaching God's Word.
c.High View of Scripture: Strongly values and emphasizes the Bible and understands and embraces its importance and relevance in the lives of young people today.
d.Personality: Someone others want to be around; a “people-person” who makes others feel comfortable and at ease. An outgoing individual whose joy and love is contagious.
3.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
a.Become an active member of Faith Community Church by the Sea. Participate in weekly worship and general life of the church.
b.Plan, prepare, and perform weekly youth group meetings on Wednesday nights. Students currently meet from 6:30-9:00pm for food, games, worship, message, etc. CRASH Wednesdays has a dual focus: 1) To be a place for fellowship and the teaching and applying of God's Word; 2) To be a safe, warm, and inviting place for new comers and non-Christians to be embraced, loved, and to have fun.
c.Lead weekly Sunday Morning youth meetings. This occurs on Sunday and currently consists on providing snacks, facilitating discussion on personal “highs” (accomplishments, joys, passions, and “praise reports”) and “lows” (struggles, discouragements, challenges) for the week, sharing brief spiritual encouragements based on Scripture, and taking prayer requests and praying for one another.
d.Event Planning. Execute monthly outreach events focused on fellowship, inviting friends, and reaching out to unbelievers. Activities have included: laser tag, bowling, paintball, scavenger hunts, broomball, Boomers, etc.
e.Plan and promote Camps/Retreats. Organize Winter Retreat weekend and Summer Camp experience.
f.Service/Missions projects. Plan opportunities for the youth to serve the community, spread the gospel, etc.
g.Calendar and Communicate. Schedule programs and events up to 3 months in advance and communicate with church staff on upcoming programs & events for website and bulletin promotions.
h.Minister to students utilizing a variety of methods of communication. We currently have about 15 students. It is the Youth Pastor/Directors responsibility to touch base and keep in contact with students (and/or delegate volunteers to do the same), employing social media (Facebook, Twitter), mobile communication (text, email, phone), and good-old-fashioned one-on-one conversations. Using appropriate church guidelines and employing wisdom and integrity, counsel students as needs arise.
i.Meet students where they are. Create a youth group presence on students' campuses.
j.Recruit, train, and lead volunteers, delegating tasks and responsibilities as needed.
k.Prayerfully consider and strategize options for outreach and growth. We are not necessarily looking for someone to simply do things the way they've always been done. We welcome and encourage a strong vision for future growth and development.
4.QUALIFICATIONS:
a.In full agreement with the FCC statement of faith, mission/vision, and Core values (see www.faithcommunity.ws for details)
