University United Methodist Church is an 1100 active-member Christian community located in downtown Chapel Hill, North Carolina. We are an established, traditional Methodist church with strong historical ties to the University and to our community. Our vision for Youth Ministry reflects our church mission statement ‘Transforming lives by loving God, serving others, and building a Christian community.' We place a great emphasis on nurturing spiritual growth, fostering Christian fellowship and promoting intentional discipleship in the youth of our congregation. Our Youth Ministry currently has 35 – 40 young people engaging in activities at UUMC during any given week. This year, 16 youth are participating in Confirmation. Additionally, approximately 50 – 60 youth participate in choir, led by the Director of the Ministry of Music. Our current infrastructure includes a Youth Council, a Youth Leadership team, parent volunteers, young adult counselors, a youth ministry intern and clergy who collaborate to support the programs and activities of our Youth Ministry. We seek a highly qualified leader to direct our Youth Ministry; someone who exemplifies a personal commitment to Christ, possesses a passion for working with youth and their families, has the experience and maturity to form and empower teams of talented people, and is prepared to be a companion, role model, teacher, counselor and leader. To lead our youth into deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, we will support and affirm the Youth Director. In return, we desire for the Youth Director to guide us (counselors, parents, and congregation) as we minister together to our youth. We anticipate a long-term relationship with continued professional growth. The Youth Director position is a full-time professional calling.
