Director of Youth Ministry
First Presbyterian Church in Waunakee, a beautiful small community located just outside Wisconsin's capital city of Madison, is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministry. FPC is a thriving, intergenerational church that began in 1877 in a carpentry shop and has grown to over 700 members. New members often comment that our exceptional children's and youth ministries are what draw them to FPC. These programs have become the hallmarks of our growing church. In fact in 2003, the Lilly Foundation selected FPCW as one of only 46 "Exemplary Youth Ministry Churches" in America after a nation-wide search among all denominations.
We are currently looking for an energetic, dynamic person with a strong Christian faith who has a passion to lead students, 7th grade through high school, into a dynamic, transformative relationship with the Triune God. This is an exciting opportunity to provide your leadership and a vision to build upon our tradition and grow our youth ministry program. We will provide resources including strong support from our Senior Pastor and our session (governing board of elders), a healthy church budget, support from experienced volunteers, and a large, well equipped youth room so that you are poised to deepen and strengthen this important ministry. We have been blessed with a history of dedicated, long-term youth directors and will continue to provide an environment encouraging youth staff to thrive.
FPC's Youth Ministry mission is to launch our middle and high school students into a lifetime of following Jesus Christ by developing caring, Christ-centered relationships; a strong teaching ministry; experiences in local, regional, and international mission work; partnering with parents to help them pass their faith in Christ to their children; and welcoming students into the broader life of the church family. Our current youth group format includes student-led contemporary Christian music, engaging group activities, scriptural teaching and dynamic, adult-facilitated small discussion groups and opportunities to serve others through mission work.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree, previous youth ministry experience, a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ strong Biblical knowledge, and a deep passion and calling for helping students build a life-long relationship with Jesus Christ. Previous leadership experience and a familiarity with, and openness to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and its ministry tradition are preferred. We are also looking for someone who understands middle and high school students, and has an ability to connect with them on an age-appropriate, personal level so that everyone feels welcomed, accepted and loved. Candidates should bring their own unique and engaging ways to lead students to a love and understanding of Jesus Christ, and a willingness to recruit and train additional adult youth ministry leaders as needed. The youth director should also be an organized, motivated self-starter who follows through on ministry responsibilities, large and small, and a team player who will work collaboratively with existing church staff, youth ministry team and congregation as a whole.
We offer competitive compensation and benefits commensurate with experience. Please e-mail your resume and a cover letter that includes brief answers to the following questions:
1) How you heard about the position
2) What you consider to be 3 of the top issues/challenges facing Middle/High School students today
3) Ideas you have to engage our youth in this ministry
