Kingwood United Methodist Church(KUMC)is a fellowship of believers committed to making disciples of and for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The church is a growing congregation of over 4,200 members that is located in the Northeast Houston metropolitan area. Kingwood, as a city, is a master planned development that is referred to as the “livable forest”.
The position of Director of Communication is being created in response to an extensive long range planning and strategic visioning exercise that was conducted over a 15 month period. The individual that is sought will be expected to make a significant contribution to the fulfillment of the strategic plan in the area of communications, marketing and media.
In general, the Director of Communications will be responsible for strategy and delivery of the internal and external communications program. Working collaboratively with ministers, lay staff and volunteer leadership is imperative. The person selected will ensure that all communications that represents KUMC is aligned with the stated mission and vision. It is also important that communications that is distributed from ministry areas is consistent, effectively delivered and representative of the quality KUMC seeks to present.
The preferred candidate will possess the following qualities:
Personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and a genuine interest in growing in faith and service to the world;
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with studies in communications, liberal arts, journalism, or related fields;
Personal experience as an active lay or volunteer in a local congregation;
Appreciation for Wesleyan theology and thought;
3-5 years’ experience in communications or related areas that include abilities in writing, oral presentation, publications creation and preparation, special emphasis writing, and design of quality work product. Capable of making presentations to diverse audiences;
Technically proficient in social media, desktop publishing, web site development, web content management and Microsoft applications;
Working knowledge of graphic design preferred, knowledge and experience in In Design, ACS, Adobe desirable;
Team oriented, goal focused, and capable of working in multiple age and interest groups;
Budget preparation and management experience viewed favorably; and
Experience working as a communications professional in a church setting highly desirable
